Carrier fees are added on top of the base rate for each outbound segment, and the fee depends on the recipient's carrier. On long codes, AT&T charges $0.0035, T-Mobile $0.0045, Verizon $0.005 and other carriers $0.0042 per outbound segment, and MMS carrier fees run from $0.007 to $0.01 per message. The mix of recipient carriers therefore changes the effective cost per message.

Text messages are charged per segment, so a message that runs past one segment is billed once for each segment. A processing fee of $0.001 also applies to each message that terminates in a Failed status. Message length therefore moves the bill directly.
